Raising a Flag

If you follow us on Pinterest then you know that lately, I’ve become a little obsessed with bunting.  If you don’t know what bunting is, maybe Robert’s observation will help, “looks like those flags at a used car lot.”  I think bunting is fun, festive and beautiful.  Usually used as a banner for birthday parties, bridal showers, and yes used cars but recently, a new friend shared this very vital secret with me…

Bunting is not just for special occasions.

It’s true; it actually makes the day-to-day feel special and a little like you’re celebrating life just by stringing it throughout your home.  Or at least that’s how it makes me feel.   On top of looking creatively festive & warm it’s a great scrap buster and fun & easy to sew! I think the worst part is cutting the triangles but if you do it strategically it’s really not all that bad {says the girl who hates to cut}.

I cut out a template from a popsicle box and traced my triangles on the wrong side of the fabric with a pencil, cut them out and lined them up.  Set your machine on the longest stitch (a basting stitch will do) and just sew a straight line.  Wha-la- Bunting!

What do you think; fun, festive, or used car lot?

Sooo Cute Erin! Aren't you glad sewing is so in??? I found a love for it and all things crafty about 2 years ago and now have a thriving Etsy and Facebook business! I love these and I am going to make some to decorate my tents for the upcoming festival season!!!

We are moving back to FM/TC in June and I am definitely going to need to hook up with you for local honey and eggs!!

Ps. I love that you used popsicle boxes for templates! Tired of my patterns getting tattered from overuse and this sounds like a great thing to try!

Thanks Julie! They are really fun to make, you'll enjoy it! The boxes worked great as they're a thin cardboard so easy to cut but won't tatter like you mentioned. Give me a shout when you get into town, would love to get you some good eggs & honey!! Erin
