After starting a non profit, a career at a Fortune 10 company, devoting my life to Jesus & discount shopping, I am now learning to be a farm girl…and a wife. Everything changed this year but there are still a few constants… I love water & wakeboarding, I think in movie quotes, and my ability to laugh at myself has proved to be my greatest asset.
I’ve been tempted to share a blog for a while but I always get stuck at the subject line. Do I write about my new found farm life, beekeeping, discount finds, random thoughts, or married life? I believe blog etiquette is to stick to one subject, unfortunately focus has never been my strong suite. Therefore, I decided on an all-encompassing subject with help from a very important place; Granny’s sewing room.
Robert’s grandma was 95 when she passed away, the sweetest lady. As her house was cleaned out I was busy moving just about everything from the Goodwill pile to my jeep…especially the sewing room. Granny raised four kids, she was a busy lady, and very selfless; the sewing room was obviously her alone time, her space. I learned so much about her from that room…and salvaged so many memories, buttons, quilt blocks, patterns, journals, notion after notion.
And then…there it was…notions.
Our American Heritage Dictionary defines a notion as:
Notion:
- A general impression or feeling
- A view; conception; theory
- Intention or inclination
- Small items for household and clothing use such as needles, buttons, thread, and ribbons
It’s time we share some notions at Sew & Water…this is where I will throw in some thoughts, what we’re learning and what’s coming out of our beautiful mess of a life and mess of a sewing room.
Thanks for caring enough to have read this much of it already…will do my best not to disappoint.
Warmly,
Erin
